The astrology of relationships is one of the most critical components of astrology, whether it’s business partners or lovers understanding the dynamics of the most important connections in your life is essential. There are two “main” types of charts and interpretation of relationships in astrology; Synastry and Midpoint Composite.

The Relationship Dynamics Report is based on Synastry. Synastry is when two charts are superimposed with one another. It allows us to understand how two individuals operate together inside of a relationship. It accounts for the expression of each person in the relationship, where the potential is, where the challenge is and how it can be worked out. By honoring both people and the interrelated points of connection, couples can see themselves and the relationship as a whole.

Here is an example of the Relationship Dynamics Report between Bill and Hillary Clinton:

Bill’s Uranus in strong square with Hillary’s Moon

The planetary energies conflict; internal and creative tensions bring rich rewards through effort over time.

This aspect, of the Moon in square with partner’s Uranus, indicates a partnership based on mutual interests, friendship, and unique appreciation of individuality, although there also can be emotional upsets, unexpected turns of feeling, or disregard for the other’s point of view. The unconventional, indiscreet or inconsiderate actions of Bill may go against the grain of Hillary, or may grow into emotional disconnects between you. Change definitely comes about in your life as a result of this partnership. Adaptability is required, and also the awareness of your separate interests. In a romantic context, you may find an instantaneous and almost magnetic attraction between you, a strong pull towards getting together quickly and intimately, but this aspect may also indicate some exasperating distancing, or aloof feelings between you, or imbalance of emotion. You may feel not at all the same, or perhaps disregard the other’s feelings, in what may turn out to be an unusual romance in terms of environment or styles. Domestic life between you may be unsettled and outside influences or the friction of career direction versus home life may separate you. You can withstand these pressures when an allowing and mature understanding is present between you. The at times irascible nature of your interaction may need some constructive realignment, or perhaps one partner’s moodiness may need to be given more freedom. Refreshing personality traits and good humor between you provides a helpful source of resolution, serving to enliven you with a sense of joy in your feelings for each other.

The difference between the Synastry method of looking at two people in relationship and the Mid-Point composite is like looking at the separate ingredients of soup, then tasting and taking in the whole soup. The Together Report is based on the Midpoint Composite chart which takes the midpoints between each planet and the ascendant in two charts, and determines s a shared planet/sign/degree/house/ascendant for both people. What emerges is a composite of both people and charts creates an image of the couple as one entity. While the Synastry chart shows both people in their respective strengths and weaknesses, the Midpoint Composite chart unleashes the power as a couple– the couple as a whole entity.

Here’s an excerpt from The Together Report for Bill and Hillary:

Composite Saturn in Leo (11° Leo 43′)
Composite Saturn in the Tenth House

Saturn in the composite chart reveals the area of your shared experience where you will encounter limitations and build long-lasting success through trials of accomplishment.

Saturn in the Tenth House (or sign) brings out an ambitious and clear-minded quality in your relationship, with a strong sense of shared responsibility. Saturn finds its most natural placement here, and together you tend to be especially persistent, careful and calculating, with a strong capacity for mastery and achievement. In a romantic relationship, you may be so achievement oriented that there is a danger of missing out on the more personal goal of simply relating to each other, perhaps because you are working through subconscious fears that if you don’t conquer the world first, then it will conquer you instead. The trick is to balance your mutual need for achievement with just being, with no need for anything beyond the sharing of yourselves with each other. As a partnership you tend to be cautious and rarely take chances. You may have difficulties, limitations or delays in the achievement of your joint goals, but your careful approach usually leads to success in the end. When your relationship is at its best, it can help you move from a personal drive for power in the world into an enlightened process of acting for the betterment of society itself.
