Heart vs Love, Leo vs Aquarius, The Anonymous Intimacy Of Valentines Day

My son received a Valentine at school yesterday. It was a red carnation and there was a note attached to it. It said, ‘To Griffin, From <3”. That was it. And in a chocolate-coated nutshell, it summed up Valentine’s Day in its most basic expression: Impersonal Love, because that’s the nature of Aquarius. It could be anyone in that class and yet, to the young girl who bought the carnation and wrote the note, it was very personal. It’s intimacy wrapped up in anonymity. That’s so Aquarian.

During the last Super Bowl, the halftime mantra was all about love, but it wasn’t the same contextual love that fueled the 60’s where it was all you needed to love the one you were with. That model, while certainly inclusive, was also decidedly heterosexual.

Not the Super Bowl.

Halftime heralded the dawn of a New Age, where love was being promoted in its most subversive context, which was the LGBT agenda, front and center, but occluded by the pulsing flower of life and Chris Martin’s dervish spins.

But does love equal heart?

When I take the temperature of the love current, it’s warm and placid, it’s soft and breezy, laced with a general consensus of acceptance, but I’m not sure it’s heart and I’m not entirely sure that there’s a lot of heart pulsing in this country right now.

As we move into the third Aquarius decan, the Libran decan, let’s examine the “relationship” between love and heart.

When I was younger, much younger, I had a very good psychic do a reading on me. She said that I “had a lot to learn about my heart.” I didn’t quite understand it at the time, but looking back, I have a much better sense as to what she meant, all these years later.

Heart is something that takes commitment and its reward isn’t as immediate as we would always like, but heart perseveres like a motherfucker and sees something through to its conclusion. Heart is fiery and intense.

I’m reminded of the scene from “True Romance,” Quentin Tarantino’s cinematic meditation on the question of heart vs love.

Patricia Arquette is getting hell beaten out of her by James Gandolfini, playing a Mafia hit man. Bloody, but unbowed, Arquette flips off Gandolfini and he says to her, “I like you kid, you’ve got heart.” She then proceeds to drive a corkscrew into his upper foot (physical appendage of Aquarius), and winds up turning the tables on the professional killer.

Most people today have no clue what heart means or the commitment it takes to anchor the heart. Our hearts are weak or closed off.

I was told today that the highest group for suicide risk is white males between the ages of 52 and 60. Why do you think this is happening? It’s because they’re losing their hearts. Their hearts are no longer into pumping and thumping in this world.

It’s no mistake that Leo is opposite sign of Aquarius. It’s the classic heart vs. the head.

Another distinction between the heart and love is that heart has to make tough choices, very tough choices, while love in its most secular and inclusive nature, doesn’t make tough choices at all—it simply rises with the tide of social acceptance, and what’s determined to be love by the Vox Populi.

There’s a big difference between the two although they can be linked by the emotion that pulses through both.

As we were softly rocked into the simulacra of the Aquarian Age last weekend, Cam Newton displayed an utter lack of heart. There was a fumble with two minutes left in the game and if the Panthers had any shot at winning, he would have had to jump into the fray, land on the ball, maybe get hit (again) and try to rally his team, which was just one score down. But Newton jumped back like there was an electrical charge crackling off that Pigskin. When asked about it later, he said, that he felt like he would get hurt if he jumped in there and tried to get the ball.

No matter how he spins it, or who comes to his defense, he displayed an utter lack of heart, fitting in the context of “The Rainbow Love Bowl.”

Your Heart is a precious commodity. It’s gold and the price of gold is rising. Why? Because the commodity of the heart is in high demand and there isn’t much of it to go around.

As we slip into Valentine’s Day, I want to say thank you to all of the people I’ve met through this site, my interviews, the shows on Gaia and my radio show. You always touch me with your heart and your courage.

From my heart to your heart. Stay strong.

Here is Friday’s show.
