Deepak ChopraA good friend and a gifted healer passed along an email to me by none other than Dr. Deepak Chopra (late Libra). Seems as though Dr. Chopra is more political than I thought. In the email, he clearly states that Sarah Palin is a manifestation of “our shadow” a “projection” of our fears. Here is the dirty laundry list of what Chopra calls, “The Palin Effect.”

• Small town values : a nostalgic return to simpler times disguises a denial of America’s global role, a return to petty, small-minded parochialism.

• Ignorance of world affairs : a repudiation of the need to repair Americaís image abroad.

• Family values : a code for walling out anybody who makes a claim for social justice. Such strangers, being outside the family, don’t need to be needed.

• Rigid stands on guns and abortion :a scornful repudiation that these issues can be negotiated with those who disagree.

• Patriotism : the usual fallback in a failed war.

• >Reform an italicized term, since in addition to cleaning out corruption and excessive spending, one also throws out anyone who doesn’t fit your ideology. It’s an interesting and fairly provoking set of indictments that can be looked at slightly differently, especially from an astrological perspective, perhaps somewhere just slightly south of the enlightened perch from which Dr. Chopra pontificates.

For those of you who have been following this series, we stopped to look at The US chart in post number 10, where we apprised the role of Pluto in Sagittarius, and how it manifested in conflicts abroad and religious extremism from 1996 to 2007.

In this post we’ll stare directly into the sulphuric gaze of Pluto in Capricorn, where it will reside in the second house of The US chart for the next sixteen-years, just after the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend. First off, it’s essential to understand the second house.

The second house represents personal resources like liquidity and assets, hard metals, cash, currency, but also internal resources such as fortitude, health, security, groundedness and stability. It’s ruled by Taurus and in the chakra system is aligned with the 1st and 2nd chakras of security and fertility respectively. Pluto as we have seen is the bringer of death and transformation, purging, cleansing and transmutating the gross materiality of attachment. Capricorn rules big business, big government, aging, time, karma and our overall skeletal structure. It’s also equated with power, not in the same way as Scorpionic power, but enduring, persistent, long range and planning power. So let’s plug the variables into the astro algorithmic generator: Pluto (power, death and transformation) + Capricorn (big business, big government, karma) + The Second House (resources, money, assets, security) = tectonic political and economic upheaval for The United States. All of this will lead to some form of re-oganization of the financial and governing system, likely marking an end to the power of the dollar as we know it and with it the sovereign status that has guided this country since it’s chart was cast on 7/4/1776.

In the natal chart of The US, Pluto is also in Capricorn, and it’s manifestation during the time of the founding fathers was overturning oligargich rule, fueled by the dictum of taxation without representation. Pluto in Capricorn represented an overthrow of the established order. As Pluto returns, it will oppose first Venus, then The Sun in Cancer. Cancer represents home, family, nurturing, empathy and sustenance. These are what in some ways Chopra dismissively refers to as “family values” codifying their subtext as “close minded,” “parochial” and “xenophobic.” The self same values that he is opining also opened the floodgates to immigrants from around the globe; from The Lost Boys of Sudan, all the way back to the Irish escaping potato famine to the diaspora of displaced Jews looking to ply their faith in a land of the free. This is the same country that pitches in to aid people around the globe, struck down hard by disaster, the same people and country that rushed to the aid of the poor (mostly black) Americans in the wake of Katrina, while the government through Homeland Security and FEMA turned away nearly all outside help a preview of the clash between Cancer (wants to help) and Capricorn (wants to command). I’m sure that if Dr. Chopra checked the list of people that devoted their time and money to such efforts, he would be surprised that many are the same people he is arbitrarily dumping into a bucket of shame, while adding to the so-called social schism he is in indirectly referring to. And while I have no doubt that Dr. Chopra is a wise sage, capable of cultivating a large following which generates him great, personal wealth, he might have passed over this study by Syracuse Professor, Arthur Brooks, where Brooks proves that conservatives, (again) probably many of the same folks that he takes a rather back handed swipe at have been shown to be more generous and charitable than the liberal and progressive side of which he would no doubt proudly plant his prayer flag.

I am not going down this path to stick up for Palin or The Right, but to hopefully illustrate a greater, astrological perspective on what Chopra is advocating.

While he decries family values, rigid standards and partiotism on one hand, he is championing globalism on the other. I have no doubt that he sees it from a utopian/new age perspective, a “spiritually driven new world order” but globalism is globalism; it destroys eco-systems for cell phones and ipods, patents nature and cares little for the sovereign rights of the indigenous, let alone the hard working, tax paying brunt of the working middle class. And lest we forget, globalism isn’t soley the domain and byproduct of The United States, it’s an international, vertical, economic model.

This is where we meet Pluto in Capricorn opposing Sun/Venus in Cancer, head on.

What this epic opposition forecasts is the socio-economic tug-of-war between the rising coporatocracy, big business as government, and government as big business, seeking to guide the populace through models of efficiency, cost analysis and production.

Dr. Chopra may be very sincere and well meaning in his decidedly “black and white” assessment on the people that respond to Sarah Palin and what she stands for, or he may simply be a manifestation of the Pluto/Capricornian drive to reform, based on his own elevated principles about what “he” thinks is best for the populace. Now to be fair, if we really drill down and examine Cancer, one of it’s protective mechanisms is to retract and retreat back into it’s shell, so based on what Chopra is saying, these can be manifestations of it’s social regression on a collective level.

Using the immune system as an analogy; Who is the white blood cell sounding the alarm of the invading virus? Is it McCain/Palin who according to Chopra are endemic of an old paradigm of separation or is it Chopra who champions assimilation towards a heavily marketed model of singularity? This will be the cosmic throwdown between transiting Pluto and The Sun/Venus in Cancer of The US well into the next decade.

In an interesting sidenote, transiting Pluto moves into an exact conjunction with The US natal Pluto on Februrary 4th . . . 2012. How’s that for dramatic emphasis?

Tomorrow, we will shed light on the astral shadow of Sarah Palin and her chart.

    Hi Robert,

I have to say that I enjoy reading your blog very much but when I read Deepak’s blog the other day on the Huffington Post it was a relief. I needed to read it last week when I was freaking out. So even though it was a week late it did touch on something very real. The fear of having the election taken away/stolen/screwed up is a bit more that a lot of us can take. It was a reminder to find your center and be calm. I also appreciate your willingness to be objective. I will keep reading your posts!

    Thanks,

    Abra
